My Story
Let me start by introducing myself: I'm Menno Bosch and I'm a Dutch bass player from Almere. From a high school student who chose the bass guitar in music class (because no else would), to a diverse and skilled bass player with a degree from Codarts (conservatory of Rotterdam).
As many other musicians my music path started out as a hobby. Playing pop/rock, blues and funk, I eventually discovered bass players like Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten and went down the Jazz path. After studying with Delbert Bernabela for two years, I had grown a new passion for Latin music. That's when I started my study at Codarts at the Latin Department. Studying music from Africa, Cuba, Brazil, Cape Verde and other Latin countries I learned a lot about complicated rhythms whilst also learning about improvising over rich jazz harmony in music from artists such as Chucho Valdez and Paquito D'Rivera.
Apart from studying Latin music I have also followed minors in Hip-Hop and Flamenco music and also play in a crossover project called Trico, where we play a combination of Latin, Flamenco, Arabic and Jazz music. So overall you could say that diversity is a redline throughout my years of playing bass.
One constant through all that has been playing in church. From Worship music by artists within the likes of Hillsong to more Gospel music from artists such as Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond.
The more music I learn, the more I realize how little I know. I love discovering new horizons and hope to do so with/for as many people as possible!
